The site and app turntable.fm closed down a while back. I still go looking for it on my phone when I feel the need to DJ or listen to a good mix of 80's music. My hope is that someone will bring the site back with a new business model to bring the crowd sourced music back to life.

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City.jpg

What a great album from a really consistent group in the music industry. Now I know that Vampire Weekend isn’t for everyone but their music has a very specific sound that I can listen to for hours. The new album Modern Vampires of the City is a wonderful listen from beginning to end. As I listened to the album I hear hints of Paul Simon in not only the music, but the vocals as well. Does that mean the group’s music will last as long as Simon’s music? Only time will tell but for right now this is an album everyone should hear.

Coming from the land of Nessie and kilts, Scottish indie rock band, Frightened Rabbit, released their 2008 sophomore album, "The Midnight Organ Fight", to much critical acclaim. With a blend of folk music and indie pop, Scott Hutchison and Co. were able to deliver a fantastic album. "The Midnight Organ Fight" begins with a simple guitar and Hutchison's forlorn lyrics in the song "The Modern Leper" in which he describes his love interest as a masochist for having stayed with such an abusive person in himself. Lyrically, Hutchison ranges from comical observations about relationships (see "Keep Yourself Warm) to self deprecating confessions (see "Poke" and "The Twist").

Frightened Rabbit uses a lot of acoustic guitar and keyboards for their sound on the album. Billy Kennedy's guitar are simple and effective in their mission to complement the unique vocals of Hutchison. These riffs as well as the occasional drum machine remind you that you're not listening to a conventional folk album.

Overall this is a great album from an up-and-coming band. Frightened Rabbit released a single EP, "Swim Until You Can't See Land from their new album late last year and are expected to release their anticipated follow-up album "The Winter of Mixed Drinks". They have also announced a tour, which will include a stop at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, in support of the Mixed Drinks. We look forward to seeing more from this great band

After gaining recognition early last year with the internet release of his mixtape as well as a guest spot on Kanye West's latest release, 808's and Heartbreak's, Kid Cudi released his major label debut entitled Man on the Moon: The End of Day late last year. Man on the Moon seems to pick up where 808's left off, bringing hook heavy songs driven more by the futuristic synths than the beats themselves. This is no surprise as Kanye provided Exec. Producer credits to the album, no doubt in support of his label's newest investment, Cudi. It's hard to classify this as a hip hop album as there is more rap-singing than actual rapping involved in most of these songs. There is really nothing about the beats themselves that stand out, but mixed with Cudi's melodic vocals and catchy hooks songs such as "Day N' Night" and "Pursuit of Happiness" that show Mr. Solo Dolo's talent in the studio. Compared with the more beat heavy hip hop albums that have been released the past few years, this is a fresh deviation and could be the beginning of a trend the internet is calling "emo rap".

Despite sometimes being known as "the guy from Cleveland not named Lebron", I think Kid Cudi has a great career ahead of him if this album is the beginning of things to come. He has a great mentor in Kanye West who again shares his producing genius and was able to lean on talents such as Common, who lent his vocals as narrator and guest vocalist on "Make Her Say", that will help usher this young talent into the mainstream.

Well the lineup for the next Bonnaroo Festival was released and is no disappointment. This years festival will feature top bill acts such as Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder and Weezer. Other notables include the "greatest rock band of all time" Tenacious D and Nashville's own The Dead Weather. This years festival will be held June 10-13 in it's usual place of Manchester, TN., little over an hour southeast of Nashville. Aside from the big guns, the festival will welcome in bands such as the folk group The Avett Brothers as well as guitar legends Jeff Beck and Les Claypool.

The Flaming Lips will also be making an appearance with Stardeath and White Dwarfs as they perform their cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It will be interesting to see the performance of a band that is known for their live performances taking on a masterpiece such as this.

Michael Franti & Spearhead will also be making their 3rd appearance at the festival. Zac Brown Band, fresh off their Grammy performance, will also be making an appearance at the festival.

This is only a taste of the bands that will be performing at this years festival. For a full lineup you can see it on Bonnaroo's myspace page. One of the things that Bonnaroo has been pretty consistent on in the past is it's commitment to musical diversity and this year's list definitely doesn't disappoint.

Lordi is a heavy metal band from Finland. The band is part of the show is as big as the music type of performer. They create an elaborate show with an image to match. The band is a cross between KISS and GWAR. The group is led by Mr. Lordi who is the creator of the bands image. Mr. Lordi - (Tom Putaansuu) has always been a big KISS, Twisted Sister and Alice Cooper fan and put his own spin on the idea. The band hit a great stride when it was awarded big honors at MTV Europe music awards. The group would performer their big hit Hard Rock Hallelujah and the video would go viral on YouTube. Lordi was feature on Oz Fest and even received a performance on the old Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The group has released 4 albums and have a 5th coming out in 2010. The music of the group doesn't actually match their look. GWAR has a dark death like sound and KISS has a rock sex sound. Lordi has more of a horror house type theme to their songs. The group also mixes a lot of comical lyrics into their monster themed songs. For anyone looking for a good theatrical metal band you should check out Lordi.

The freshman album from the Dead Weather's really hit the ground running. The album is a good solid rock album with a driving percussive sound. The really nice thing about the album is the use of an older sound mixed with back up synthesizer. The mix of different sounds makes the album easy to a whole and not just for singles. As with most Jack White side projects they always come out on top and The Dead Weather's are no different.

With a gritty female lead singer and old recorded sound makes this album great. Alison Mosshart's lead vocals and Jack White's back ups make the album what it is. The great thing about the album is how it still has radio appeal. I hear the song for sporting event commercial and even heard it as Muzak at the grocer store.

The album will give you everything you might be looking for in a rock album. It will also show you how truly great a musician Jack White is.

Ke$ha's first album "Animal" has taken off like a rocket with her hit single "Tik Tok". She has a good voice and the album sounds like a Lady GaGa part 2. Now this doesn't take away from the album in any way. She does make the album sound very different and unique. The album flow leaves a little to be desired for a pop album. There is a vast difference between the first half of the album and the second.

Listening to the album it has a wide range of songs and how they make you feel. Stephan shows what her vocals could possible be all rapped up in a stalker-ish song. She does make the album fun and interesting but for now it's a pretty good pop album.

Orianthi Panagaris - (Orianthi) is an Australian born female rocker. She is more currently know as one of the lead guitarist from Michael Jackson's lost tour "This is It". She has been in the spot light since she was 15 doing duets with such artist such as Steve Vai and Santana. With the 80's/90's in voig not only in fashion bur also in culture; Orianthi fills the Lita Ford void. The lead single "According to You" has very well on iTunes and Amazon. The album is a great rock pop album with really great guitar riffs. Watching her in the "This is It" documentary she seems a little harder of a rocker than the album shows. Some of the songs in the album actually have an underling southern rock feel. The song "Think Like A Man" has more of the sound her style would be. The song has a really great driving rock sound with the solos laid on top. The album is a good buy for any one who enjoys rock/pop.

Kelly Clarkson is the original American Idol winner. She has gone on to become one of the second highest selling American Idols to date. She continues to entertain audiences from every country. She will be on her 5th album coming up mid 2010 and she promises this album will be a range of styles and energy. The rumor for the new album is that it will be a full on Country album. The feeling is that she is chasing after Carree Underwood's glory. Kelly is under obligation to record 2 more albums with her current label and then she can opt out for a new deal. The thought is that she is cranking out albums faster to fulfill this obligation and move on.

I've watched Kelly from the beginning of American Idol and I've been amazed at who she was and how she could sing. I have seen Kelly in concert and she does a great job of building up the audience and getting them involved in the concert. She really does have a great awareness of her place as an influence in people's life.

I believe in the long run Kelly will be one of the most recognized and successful American Idols of all time. If you enjoyed or didn't enjoy what you read please feel free to leave us a comment and tell your friends. We hope you enjoyed our site.

The Adam Lambert album is a very different but interesting album. It has a wide range of musical styles. It has the normal American Idol pop songs but it also has very different sound on others. He does have a broadway esk sound to a few of the song but it doe not take away from the bigger picture of the album. The album ranges from greatly controlled ballads to mild rock songs. The album lay out leaves something to be desired. If you listen to the album beginning to end you will feel a little out of whack. If you actually let you Mp3 player shuffle it it comes out much better.

Will the album stand the test of time as a classic to go back to and listen over and over? It truly depends a lot on his Sophomore album and how he handles the fame of being an American Idol. Adam Lambert was the runner up for American Idol season 8 and has made a big name for himself. He has great star power and has the ability to be one of the biggest of the male American Idols.

The Amazon and iTunes links are directly to the albums if you are interested in purchasing them. If you enjoyed or didn't enjoy what you read please feel free to leave us a comment and tell your friends. We hope you enjoyed our site.
